Santa Maria, 93455
As a longtime resident of Santa Maria, I believe this decision will have long term impacts on our city.
Everyone knows and understands the importance of agriculture, but there are over 120,000 acres of prime farmland in Santa Barbara County alone. Annexing a small part of ag land into the city would be a very tiny fraction of the total. Therefore, the decision should not be based on agriculture, but totally focused on what is best for the City of Santa Maria and its future.
The people of Santa Maria deserve to grow in a healthy way with parks, schools, churches, homes, businesses, and industry to support our expected growth. Putting more and more people into smaller and smaller spaces is not the answer for an expanding and prosperous city.
I urge the City Council to approve the annexation of land to accommodate the city’s near future needs and become part of the General Plan.
