FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF JANUARY 16, 2024

COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT

TO: City Council

FROM: Interim City Manager Alex Posada

BY: Public Information Manager Mark van de Kamp

SUBJECT: Presentation – Businesses of the Quarter – January to March 2024

Present certificates to the featured Businesses of the Quarter (January to March 2024) – Casa Bonita Furniture and Budget Blinds of Santa Maria.

BACKGROUND:

The City of Santa Maria and the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce are partnering to highlight different businesses in the City through a Businesses of the Quarter Program.

This program will recognize local businesses chosen by the Chamber on four occasions this calendar year. The criteria are: fewer than 20 employees; in operation for at least five years; physically located within the City Limits; and being a local Chamber of Commerce member in good standing. Not only does this give them valuable exposure, it also reminds the community of the unique, diverse, and long -standing businesses we are fortunate to have in Santa Maria.

DISCUSSION:

Casa Bonita Furniture and its showroom are located at 500 West Main Street. Formed in 2019, the family -owned business has three employees. It provides a collection of customized couches, sectionals, accent chairs , and sofa beds. The owners focus on quality furniture and great customer service including free local delivery. They are involved in supporting community events and charities. Representing the business tonight is Benjamin Davalos, President.

Budget Blinds of Santa Maria is located at 3130 Skyway Drive. Formed in 2012, the business has grown steadily and now has five employees.
