RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt a resolution approving the Agreement between the City of Santa Maria and the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District for the continued operation and use of District Pools.
BACKGROUND:
In 2005, the City of Santa M aria entered into an agreement with the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District (D istrict) whereby the City contributed funds towards the construction of pools at Pioneer Valley High School and Santa Maria High School. This initial collaboration aimed to enhance recreational and educational facilities for Santa Maria residents.
The proposed agreement continues this history of cooperation, allowing the City to provide services at three pools constructed by the District at Pioneer Valley High School, Righetti High School, and Santa Maria High School. The agreement outlines terms for the use of these pools by the City and the hiring of City employees by the D istrict for pool maintenance, management, and lifeguard services.
DISCUSSION:
The collaboration between the City and the D istrict aligns with the shared goal of improving access to recreational and educational facilities for the benefit of Santa Maria residents. The agreement allows the City to extend its services to new pools, enha ncing community engagement and promoting a healthier lifestyle. 2 Alternative(s)
The Council may choose not to approve the agreement, thereby limiting the City's involvement in providing services at the new pools. However, such a decision may result in misse d opportunities for community engagement and the positive utilization of recreational facilities.
Fiscal Considerations
The D istrict will continue to fund certain positions in the City's Recreation and Parks Department to provide the specified services. T he fiscal impact is outlined in the agreement. This collaboration represents a mutually beneficial arrangement without an additional financial burden on the City.
Impact to the Community
The approval of this continuation agreement signifies a substantial positive impact on the Santa Maria community. By continuing the City's services to two pools at Pioneer Valley High School, and Santa Maria High School, residents will enjoy enhanced recreational opportunities. This aligns with the City's commitment to promoting community health and well-being, encouraging physical activity, and fostering a healthier lifestyle for all.
