SUBJECT: Adoption of a Resolution to Approve Filing a Project Application to the California State Parks, Local Assistance Specified Grants -Capital for the Santa Maria Sports Complex
Description:
The City Council will consider approving the filing of Local Assistance Specified Grant Application for the Santa Maria Sports Complex.
Environmental Notice: The activity is not a “Project” as defined under Section 15378 of the California Environmental Quality Act State Guidelines; therefore, pursuant to State Guidelines Section 15060(c)(3) no environmental review is required.
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt a Resolution allowing the Recreation and Parks Department to file a project application to California State Parks, Local Assistance Specified Grants -Capital, for the Santa Maria Sports Complex.
BACKGROUND:
The project application originates from a specific line item in the State of California Budget for the fiscal year 2023 -24, (previously known as an “earmark ”, sponsored by Senator Limón and Assemblymember Greg Hart ), emphasizing the stat e's commitment to supporting the Santa Maria Sports Park initiative. The procedural pathway for the project involves the necessity of obtaining Council approval through a resolution, a critical step before the issuance of a contractual agreement for the project.
DISCUSSION:
The project application and accompanying funding are instrumental in propelling the City's Sports Complex initiative forward. The $ 1,000,000 allocated funds from the State of California's budget for the fiscal year 2023 -24 provide a substantial investment, ensuring the development of state -of-the-art facilities catering to diverse sporting and recreational activities.
Once established, the S ports Complex will serve as a central hub for community engagement, hosting various sporting events and activities for residents of all ages.
