FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF APRIL 16, 2024

COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT

TO: City Council

FROM: Interim City Manager Alex Posada

SUBJECT: Businesses of the Quarter – April to June 2024

Present certificates to the featured Businesses of the Quarter (April to June 2024) – Arrow Plumbing Drain & Repair Service and Trojan Petroleum, Inc.

BACKGROUND:

The City of Santa Maria and the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce are partnering to highlight different businesses in the City through a Business of the Quarter Program.

On four occasions this calendar year, this program will recognize local businesses chosen by the Chamber. The criteria are: fewer than 20 employees; in operation for at least 5 years; physically located within the City Limits; and being a local Chamber of Commerce member in good standing. Not only does this give them valuable exposure, it also reminds the community of the unique, diverse, and long -standing businesses we are fortunate to have in Santa Maria.

Arrow Plumbing Drain & Repair Service is located at 320 Oak Street in Santa Maria.

Daniel Keuma started the company in 1991 upon his relocation here from Hawaii. His son, Kaniela, had ambitions for growth. The company has grown from a one -truck operation to seven trucks and eight employees. It provides services to residential and commercial customers. They are involved in supporting community events and charities.

Representing the business tonight are Kaniela Keuma, owner, and Jessica Keuma, wife/office manager.

Trojan Petroleum, Inc. is located at 1665 West Betteravia Road in Santa Maria. Founded 43 years ago by Bud and Ebba Ric hards, it has grown into a full -service petroleum distributor specializing in delivering fuel to farm locations and job sites throughout Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties, as well as being an independently owned Pacific Pride card lock site. It has 15 delivery trucks. The company is a member of many local civic groups. Representing the business tonight are Kathleen Brodie, President, and Larry Schubert, Secretary.
