SUBJECT: Proclamation – “Public Service Recognition Week” – May 5th through May 11th
Present a Proclamation recognizing the week of May 5 through May 11, 2024, as “Public Service Recognition Week” in the City of Santa Maria.
BACKGROUND:
National “Public Service Recognition Week” honors the people who serve our nation as federal, state, county, local, and tribal government employees. First celebrated in 1985, Public Service Recognition Week is the perfect time to recognize public servants for the services they provide to residents in Santa Maria.
DISCUSSION:
For the 39th year, Public Service Recognition Week will be held to celebrate the workforce that puts the public first, with some risking their lives daily to serve the millions of people living in the United States. Without this workforce, continuity of services would be hindered due to the regular changes of leaders and elected officials.
Public servants include police officers, firefighters, accountants, clerks, analysts, engineers, planners, librarians, attorneys, inspectors, laborers, computer technicians, and countless other occupations. Pub lic servants provide a vast array of services with efficiency and integrity. Representatives from the Human Resources Division will be accepting the award on behalf of City staff.
