Proclamation
WHEREAS, Recreation and Parks are integral parts of communities throughout this country, including the City of Santa Maria; and
WHEREAS, Recreation and Parks promote time spent in nature, which positively impacts mental health by increasing cognitive performance and well-being and alleviating illnesses, such as depression, attention-deficit disorders, and Alzheimer’s; and
WHEREAS, Recreation and Parks support physical activities by providing spaces for popular sports, hiking trails, swimming pool, and numerous other activities that promote active lifestyles; and
WHEREAS, Recreation and Parks programming and educational activities, such as out- of-school time programs, youth sports, and enviro nmental education are critical to childhood development; and
WHEREAS, Recreation and Parks increase a community’s economic prosperity through higher property values, expanded local tax bases, increased tourism, the attraction and retention of businesses, and crime reduction; and
WHEREAS, the U.S. House of Representatives has designated July as Recreation and Parks Month; and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Maria recognizes the numerous benefits derived from Recreation and Parks;
NOW, THEREFORE I, ALICE M. PA TINO, Mayor of the City of Santa Maria hereby recognize July 1 through July 31, 2024, as
“RECREATION AND PARKS MONTH”
in Santa Maria and encourages all residents to enjoy and support our parks and recreational activities.
