Proclamation
WHEREAS, Mike Cordero, a 52 -year resident of the City of Santa Maria, compiled a decades-long record of public service as a police officer, board member , and supporter of many non-profits, and through three terms as a City Councilmember; and
WHEREAS, after a distinguished 36 -year career with the Santa Maria Police Department, Mr. Cordero ran for and was elected to the Santa Maria City Council in 2008 , serving from 2008 to 2012, and being re-elected in 2016 and 2020 , served another eight years, all with a track record of dedication to local residents and issues; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Cordero advocated for increases in youth and recreation programs, advocated for downtown revitalization, opened a fifth fire station to better serve the community, and supported Measure U to maintain and enhance essential City services; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Cordero’s impressive list of community service included being honored as a 2022 Celebrate Philanthropy Honoree along with his wife Linda ; Peace Builder of the Year from The People for Nonviolence Committee; officer with the Santa Maria Elks Lodge 1548; in addition to serving as a board member, Commission member, and volunteer on many fund-raising and community outreach events; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Santa Maria City Council and the City staff express their individual and collective appreciation to Councilmember Mike Cordero for his dedicated service to the public, and lasting contributions to the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ALICE M. PATINO, Mayor of the City of Santa Maria hereby proclaim that
“MIKE CORDERO”
is hereby recognized and commended for his dedicated service and extraordinary contributions to the Santa Maria community, and wish him and his family well in all their future endeavors.
