SUBJECT: Proclamation – “Sexual Assault Awareness Month” – April 2025
The City Council will recognize the month of April 2025, as “Sexual Assault Awareness Month” in the City of Santa Maria and encourage awareness in the City.
BACKGROUND:
Sexual assault affects individuals of all backgrounds, with more than 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men experiencing it in their lifetime. The lasting emotional and physical scars highlight the need for education, survivor support, and advocacy. Organizations such as the North County Rape Crisis and Child Protection Center, along with law enforcement, healthcare providers, and volunteers, ar e actively working to end sexual violence. Prevention is possible through collective action, awareness, and community involvement.
