Fire Hazard Severity Zones
Impacts:
• The areas identified on the Local Responsibility Area Fire Hazard Severity Zones map, as identified by the State
Fire Marshal, are developed (northeast near the riverbed) or unbuildable (Airport Operation Area) and therefore no impacts are expected to the City or the residents.
• The designation Moderate Hazard Severity Zone allows
the local jurisdiction to adopt stricter Building and Fire Code requirements or continue with current adopted
Building and Fire Code requirements. There will be no
change in the construction and maintenance
requirements for the City.
Fire Hazard Severity Zones
State Mandates:
• Notify the public within 30 days of receiving the
transmittal letter from the Office of the State Fire
Marshal. Notification to the public was released March
21, 2025.
• Adopt an ordinance designating the Fire Hazard
Severity Zones in the City of Santa Maria.
• Provide a copy of the ordinance to the Department of
Forestry and Fire Protection within 30 days of adoption.
