A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA MARIA, CALIFORNIA,
APPROVING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE “KEEP CLEAR”
PAVEMENT MARKING POLICY FOR THE CITY OF SANTA
MARIA
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Maria seeks to promote safe and efficient traffic operations throughout its transportation network; and
WHEREAS, “Keep Clear” pavement markings are a traffic control tool used to reduce congestion and improve access to driveways, inters ections, and emergency services by discouraging vehicles from blocking key access points; and
WHEREAS, a formal “Keep Clear” Pavement Marking Policy has been developed to ensure consistency in evaluating, approving, placing, and removing such markings based on measurable criteria and public safety considerations; and
WHEREAS, the Traffic Committee, established by City Council Resolution No. 2061 and CAM 63 -15, reviewed and recommended approval of the policy on April 23, 2025, in accordance with its role in making recommendations to the City Council on traffic circulation and safety matters within the public right-of-way.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Santa Maria, California, as follows:
SECTION 1. The City Council hereby adopts the “Keep Clear” Pavement Marking Policy, Attachment B to the Council Agenda Report, hereto and incorporated herein by this reference, as the official guiding policy for evaluating and implementing “Keep Clear” markings within the City of Santa Maria.
SECTION 2. The Chief Deputy City Clerk is hereby authorized to make m inor changes herein to address clerical errors, so long as substantial conformance of the intent of this document is maintained. In doing so, the Chief Deputy City Clerk shall consult with the City Manager and City Attorney concerning any changes deemed necessary.
