Proclamation
WHEREAS, Recreation and Park programs and services are an integral part of the health and well-being of communities throughout this country, including the City of Santa Maria; and
WHEREAS, In Santa Maria, the Recreation and Parks Department is dedicated to enhancing the lives of all residents through quality parks, programs, and events; and
WHEREAS, Recreation and Parks promotes health and wellness, improving the physical and mental well-being of people who live near or use our parks and facilities or participate in our programs; and
WHEREAS, Recreation and Parks encourages physical activity by providing access to sports fields, walking and biking trails, swimming pools, and other publicly available amenities that promote active lifestyles; and
WHEREAS, the department supports community wellness through the provision of healthy meals, nutrition education, and inclusive programming for all ages; programs such as youth and adult sports, environmental education, and after-school activities; and
WHEREAS, parks and natural areas are vital infrastructure that support environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and access to nature for all; and
WHEREAS, the U.S. House of Representatives has designated July as Recreation and Parks Month to recognize the essential services provided by recreation and parks professionals nationwide.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ALICE M. PATINO, Mayor of the City of Santa Maria hereby proclaim the month of July 2025, as
“RECREATION AND PARKS MONTH”
in the City of Santa Maria , and encourages all residents to celebrate, support, and participate in the parks, programs, and events that enrich our community — because in Santa Maria, We Are Recreation and Parks.
