SUBJECT: Adoption of Resolution Approving an Amendment to an Agreement with the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce for Economic Development Services
Description:
The City Council will consider adopting a Resolution approving an amendment to an agreement with the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce for Economic Development Services.
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt a Resolution approving an amendment to an a greement with the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce for Economic Development Services.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Santa Maria and the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce (Chamber) have been engaged in economic development services for many years. The Chamber has special knowledge, experience, and skills for promotional and advertising work related to attracting businesses to Santa Maria. Under the terms of the agreement, the Chamber d etermines the method, details, and means of advertising, providing information, and conducting activities designed to retain and expand existing businesses, as well as attract new businesses to the City.
DISCUSSION:
On September 17, 2024, the City Council approved a nine-month contract with the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce for Economic Services. City staff would like to extend the contract for one additional year, through June 30, 2026. The City will pay the Chamber $208,875 for the services rendered. The City remains committed to enhancing economic development activities and will continue to examine all options to do so.
Fiscal Considerations
The above funding is budgeted in the 2024 -26 Budget, which was approved by City Council in June of 2024.
2 Impact to the Community
Approving the agreement for economic development services will increase opportunities for employment through job attraction and retention.
