Good evening, Council Members. My name is Anastasia Senavsky, and I am writing on behalf of the Planned Parenthood Central Coast Action Fund to reaffirm our support for and respectfully call upon the Council’s support for the formation of an Immigration Ad Hoc Committee.
PPCCAF fights for all people to have equitable access to essential healthcare and, therefore, unites in solidarity with the immigrant communities of Santa Maria and throughout the Central Coast.
Immigrant enforcement operations and uncertainty about the role of local law enforcement in protecting the community continue to perpetuate fear and uncertainty while creating barriers to accessing care. Our neighbors are fearful of leaving their homes— let alone seek the healthcare they need and deserve. This fear and intimidation directly impact the ability to care for patients and threatens the health, safety, and wellbeing of our community. The establishment of an Immigration Ad Hoc Committee allows all voices to be heard— children, youth, families, educators, healthcare workers, business leaders, and individuals from various industries regardless of immigration status. All constituents deserve the opportunity to be listened to by their elected representatives, and the establishment of this committee provides that opportunity.
This crucial committee is needed now more than ever, so that all community members and residents impacted by immigration enforcement operations have an adequate platform to directly share their experiences and concerns. And that, the City of Santa Maria can stay better informed and engaged with our immigrant community.
On behalf of the Planned Parenthood Central Coast Action Fund, we respectfully urge your support for this vital committee.
Thank you.
