A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MARIA, CALIFORNIA
AUTHORIZING UPDATED DISPOSAL FEES FOR
THE SANTA MARIA REGIONAL LANDFILL
EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2026
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Maria (“City”) owns and operates the Santa Maria Regional Landfill (“SMRL”), which derives its revenue from landfill disposal fees (Solid Waste Disposal Fund); and
WHEREAS, the Utilities Department updated i ts financial model for the SMRL using actual data and current economic, regulatory, and operational information; and
WHEREAS, based on th at update, additional revenue is required to support continued operations, maintenance, equipment replacement, environmental compliance, capital projects, and fund reserves required by the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle); and
WHEREAS, the proposed disposal fees reflect the anticipated costs to receive, process, and/or dispose of specific commodities; and
WHEREAS, the proposed disposal fees will provide additional funding to better sustain the Solid Waste Disposal Fund.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Santa Maria, California, as follows:
SECTION 1. As of January 1, 2026, the Director of Utilities is hereby authorized and directed to charge, and the Director of Finance is hereby authorized and directed to collect, the disposal fees for Santa Maria Regional Landfill as described in Exhibit “A” ; and
SECTION 2 . The Chief Deputy City Clerk is hereby authorized to make minor changes herein to address clerical errors, so long as substantial conformance of the intent of this document is maintained. In doing so, the City Clerk shall consult with the City Manager and City Attorney concerning any changes deemed necessary.
