A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MARIA, CALIFORNIA
EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR IMMIGRANT
RESIDENTS OF SANTA MARIA
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Maria’s (City) immigrant communities, play a central role in the cultural, social, and economic fabric of the City; and
WHEREAS, the Santa Maria Police Department and Santa Maria City Government remain steadfast in providing, and maki ng accessible, services to all our community members, and respecting and upholding the rights of all our community members; and
WHEREAS, the Santa Maria Police Department has made clear it does not enforce federal immigration laws and does not inquire about individuals’ immigration status; and
WHEREAS, the Santa Maria Police Department’s focus and commitment is community safety and crime prevention, and continues to foster trust and cooperation with our community.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Santa Maria, California, as follows:
SECTION 1. The City Council supports all residents of Santa Maria; and
SECTION 2. All City of Santa Maria policies and procedures are in compliance with California state laws that protect undocumented individuals, including Senate Bill 54 (2017) (SB 54). The Santa Maria Police Department does not ask about, collect, or keep information about the immigration status of anyone they encounter.
