SUBJECT: Adoption of a Resolution Expressing Support for Immigrant Residents of Santa Maria
Description:
A Resolution expressing support for immigrant residents.
Environmental Notice: The activity is not a “Project” as defined under Section 15378 of the California Environmental Quality Act State Guidelines; therefore, pursuant to State Guidelines Section 15060(c)(3) no environmental review is required.
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt a Resolution expressing support for immigrant residents of Santa Maria.
BACKGROUND:
City Council requested an agenda item to be placed on the upcoming meeting agenda for consideration, expressing support for the immigration community of Santa Maria.
DISCUSSION:
The City emphasizes that all public safety policies and procedures are in compliance with California state laws, including Senate Bill 54, the California Values Act (2017) (SB 54).
The Santa Maria Police Department does not ask about, collect, or keep info rmation about the immigration status of anyone they encounter. The Santa Maria Police Department’s focus and commitment is community safety and crime prevention continue to foster trust and cooperation with the community.
