A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MARIA, CALIFORNIA
APPROVING THE RECEIPT OF A $28,900 DONATION FROM
THE FRIENDS OF THE SANTA MARIA PUBLIC LIBRARY
WHEREAS, the Friends of the Santa Maria Public Library (Friends of the SMPL) is a 501(c)(3) non -profit organization focused on supporting Library services and initiatives; and
WHEREAS, the Friends of the SMPL donated $28,900 for the purchase of supplies and materials for both youth and adult programming, books, CDs, DVDs, audiovisual resources, and items for Library of Things; and
WHEREAS, Government Code Section 37354 of the California Government Code states that, “The legislative body may accept or reject any gift, bequest, or devise made to or for the city, or to or for any of its officers in their official capacity or in trust for any public purpose;” and
WHEREAS, the City’s Gift and/or Donation Policy CAM 2017-01 requires offers of monetary donations or items valued more than $25,000 must be accepted by the City Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Santa Maria, California, as follows:
SECTION 1. Accept a donation from the Friends of the SMPL for $28,900 and direct the City Manager, or designee, to prepare a letter of appreciation to the Friends of the SMPL.
SECTION 2 . The Chief Deputy City Clerk is hereby authorized to make minor changes herein to address clerical errors, so long as substantial conformance with the intent of this document is maintained. In doing so, the Chief Deputy City Clerk shall consult with the City Manager and City Attorney concerning any changes deemed necessary.
