4 Problem Statement:

Broadway (SR 135) and Main Street (SR 166) in
Downtown Santa Maria do not meet the public
space needs of the community, achieve the
multimodal goals of the City, or align with the
guiding principles for Caltrans Main Streets.

A Feasibility Study is needed because previous
planning efforts identified a vision for the
Downtown area but did not determine specific,
feasible scope elements which are needed to
begin a project.

Study Goals:
• Guide the development of a project that will
implement multimodal elements in Downtown
Santa Maria.

Study Objectives:
• Provide options that can enhance
accessibility for pedestrians and bicyclists
within Downtown.
• Provide strategies for traffic calming to
enhance safety for all modes of
transportation.
• Provide potential solutions for freight conflicts
with other modes.
