SUBJECT: Proclamation Proclaiming April 13 through 20, 2026, as “International Dark Sky Week”
The City Council will present a Proclamation proclaiming April 13 through 20, 2026, as “International Dark Sky Week” in the City of Santa Maria.
BACKGROUND:
Santa Maria recognizes the importance of preserving its star -filled night sky, noting that light pollution negatively impacts the environment, wildlife, agriculture, and human health.
By promoting responsible lighting practices, the City supports efforts to reduce light pollution. The week of April 13 through 20, 2026, is proclaimed as “International Dark Sky Week,” encouraging residents to adopt night sky –friendly lighting and appreciate the beauty of the night sky.
