COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT

TO: Mayor and City Council

FROM: David W. Rowlands, City Manager

DATE: April 7, 2026

SUBJECT: Presentation – Value of Volunteering

The City Council will receive a presentation about the value of volunteering for the health of the community and the volunteer.

BACKGROUND:

Volunteering plays a vital role in strengthening the health of both communities and the individuals who serve them. By giving time and energy to support local needs —whether through food drives, mentorship, or community cleanups —volunteers help create safer , more connected environments where people can thrive. At the same time, volunteering benefits the volunteer by reducing stress, fostering a sense of purpose, and building social connections that improve emotional well -being. This mutual exchange not only addresses immediate challenges but also builds a culture of compassion and resilience that supports long-term community health.

DISCUSSION:

A Volunteer Fair will be held on April 19th, 2026, at the Santa Maria Town Center Mall.

Presentation requested by Midge Nicosia, Community Partners in Caring.
