SUBJECT: Proclamation Proclaiming May 2026, as “Bike Month”.
The City Council will present a Proclamation proclaiming May 2026, as “Bike Month” in the City of Santa Maria.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Santa Maria recognizes bicycling as an affordable, healthy, and environmentally sustainable form of transportation and recreation. During the month of May, the community will celebrate “CycleMAYnia” through various activities such as educational programs, commuting events, organized rides, and community engagement efforts.
The City actively supports bicycling through infrastructure maintenance, safety enforcement, development standards, and educational initiatives. Promoting a bicycle - friendly environment contributes to improved public health, enhanced quality of life, economic benefits, and reduced traffic and pollution, with support from local and regional organizations.
