A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MARIA, CALIFORNIA
APPROVING A $150,000 DONATION FROM AMAZON TO THE
SANTA MARIA FIRE DEPARTMENT AND A BUDGET AMENDMENT FOR THE
PURCHASE OF PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
WHEREAS, Amazon.com, Inc has donated funds in the amount of $150,000 specifically for the Fire Department to purchase Personal Protective Equipment; and
WHEREAS, Government Code Section 37354 provides that the City Council may accept any gift, bequest, or devise made to or for the City, or to or for any of its officers in their official capacity or in trust for any public purpose; and
WHEREAS, the City’s Gift and/or Donation Policy CAM 2017-01 requires offers of monetary donations or items valued more than $25,00 0 must be accepted by the City Council; and
WHEREAS, the Fire Department’s budget will need to be increased to purchase the Personal Protective Equipment fully funded by this donation.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Santa Maria, California, as follows:
SECTION 1. Approve the acceptance of the donation in the amount of $150,000 from Amazon to purchase Personal Protective Equipment and increase the appropriation level of the Fire Department’s budget by $150,000.
SECTION 2. Authorize the City Manager or designee to prepare a letter of appreciation to Amazon.
SECTION 3. Authorize the Chief Deputy City Clerk to make minor changes herein to address clerical errors, so long as substan tial conformance of the intent of this document is maintained. In doing so, the Chief Deputy City Clerk shall consult with the City Manager and City Attorney concerning any changes deemed necessary.
