SUBJECT: Adoption of a Resolution Approving the Donation of Computers to Allan Hancock College, Santa Maria Historical Society Museum, and the Children’s Resource & Referral Discovery Museum
Description:
The City Council will consider adopting a Resolution approving the donation of computers to Allan Hancock College, Santa Maria Valley Historical Society Museum and the Children’s Resource & Referral Discovery Museum.
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt a Resolution approving a donation of computers to Allan Hancock College, Santa Maria Valley Historical Society Museum and the Children’s Resource & Referral Discovery Museum.
BACKGROUND:
Allan Hancock College Police Chief David Millard is requesting 6 Mobile Data Computers (MDCs), 6 MDC mounts, MDC pedestals, and 6 cradle points from Santa Maria Police/Fire Department decommissioned equipment. Children's Resource & Referral Discovery Museum has a donated Hummer from the Santa Maria Police Department, and the donated Computer will display video footage inside the Hummer.
Santa Maria Valley Historical Society Museum is requesting 2 PCs to upgrade their staff computers.
DISCUSSION:
The donation of computers will increase the public safety footprint for the Allan Hancock Police Department with minimal cost to both parties.
Santa Maria Valley Historical Society works from a non-profit standpoint and will benefit from increasing its security footprint and reliability with upgraded computers.
Children's Resource & Referral Discovery Museum will benefit from bringing new technology provided by the City of Santa Maria with the donation of a PC. 2 The donation of these refurbished computers will enhance our city’s public facing infrastructure that would otherwise be recycled in our landfill or sold in bulk to the highest bidder.
Fiscal Considerations
There is no fiscal impact to the General Fund associated with this donation.
