Subject: Item 3E Consent calendar: March 8, 2022 Seismic Retrofit Fema Grant
EXTERNAL
Greetings Councilmembers:
This item arranges grant $$, managed by outside firm, to property owners of 3 story buildings of 16 units or less.
This completely ignores the largest portion of buildings that are 2 stories. WE NEED HELP!! You know each bldg. is $50‐$100,000. Please amend the motion to instruct staff and the mgmt. company to Provide funds to owners of 2 story bldgs from this FEMA grant. Also pls include in the motion to support Assemblymember Nazarian pending bill in state legislature to temporarily reduce property taxes for a portion Of the retrofit costs. The bill has passed 2 committees unanimously.
OWNERS OF 2 STORY BUILDINGS NEED HELP TO FINANCE THE RETROFIT COSTS. WE ARE THE MAJORITY OF BUILDINGS IN THE CITY. IT IS UNFAIR FOR US TO BE LEFT OUT IN THE COLD BEARING THE FULL COSTS, WITHOUT ANY ASSISTANCE, NOR EVEN MINIMAL PASSTHRUS TO TENANTS AS DONE IN CITY OF LOS ANGELES.
Please amend the motion to allocation some funding to our buildings and support pending legislation in Sacramento. It is supported by Senator Ben Allen.
Thank you,
Jay Johnson
