Subject: Item 5C - Appointment to Unscheduled Vacancy on the Housing Commission Good Afternoon Everyone.
I hope your day is going well. As with every meeting, you have major decisions facing you this evening. While everything is important, I would like to weigh in on your decision regarding appointing the next young adult to our Public Safety Reform and Oversight Commission. While each applicant offers strong characteristics for leadership and commitment to public service, I am impressed by Adya Mohanty's application. She demonstrates a well-versed and rounded young adult who would greatly benefit from participating on our commission. As a theater instructor for the Santa Monica Playhouse and musical director for the South Asian acapella group, USC Asli Baat, Adya Mohanty comes in contact with a diverse community. Such lived experiences contribute to Adya Mohanty's imagination toward reimagining a more just society. Mohanty could also leverage the education in public policy and race relations, along with lived experiences as a means of contributing to impactful, generational change. I wholeheartedly believe Adya Mohanty represents a new "voice" in the community and deserves the opportunity to expand upon the work currently doing in our community.
