EXTERNAL
Dear City Council members,
As you know, there is currently no Black male on the Santa Monica Public Safety Reform and Oversight Commission. This seems untenable to me, since we know that many Black males in our community have had unpleasant encounters with police officers in our city. As a group, they need to have a voice or 2 on this important and historic commission. There are now three Black men who have applied to fill a current vacancy on this commission: Craig A. Walter, Xavier H. Bannister, and Dante L. Harrington.
I hope you will all work together to place one of these three onto the PSROC tonight. It would signal to a number of us that the city council is taking the work of this commission seriously and trying to help it succeed by providing input from a Black male perspective.
Thank you,
Joanne
