Recommended Action
Staff recommends that City Council adopt the attached Ordinance.
Executive Summary
At its meeting on April 26, 2022, the City Council introduced for first reading an ordinance approving the Santa Monica Police Department’s Military Equipment Use Policy pursuant to Assembly Bill (AB) 481. City Council directed staff to bring the policy to the Public Safety Reform and Oversight Commission (“PSROC”) for its review prior to it returning to City Council for second reading. On July 14, 2022, the PSROC reviewed the policy, did not propose any changes, and made the recommendation that the City Council move forward with the ordinance and the corresponding proposed Military Equipment Use Policy as written. The PSROC recommendation is attached hereto as Attachment C. The ordinance is now presented to City Council for adoption.
