You probably noticed that the McGee/Lerer law firm has the identical ad in today’s SMDP, and may be planning to continue this through New Year’s Eve, Further, how can you know how many other lawyers are attempting to sign up child abuse victim related clients in the next 18 days?Be smart, and put off the child abuse and insurance discussions in Closed Session until January. Sincerely, Stan Epstein. 310 393 7619.

Hi Gleam, Phil and Lana.Would someone kindly send a copy of this note to newly elected Councilmembers Torosis and Zwick? Thanks so much.    Congratulations to all three of you.          The Agenda for your meeting on Tuesday provides for Closed Session discussion of the City’s dispute with an insurance carrier relating to coverage on the Eric Uller issues. Another item relates to several existing law suits also arising from the wrongful acts of Mr. Uller. On page 7 of the Weekend edition of the SMDP, there is a half page ad by the McGee/Lerer law firm looking for clients to represent in Uller issues relating to sexually abused teen boys. The Deadline to file claims is stated to be December 31, 2022.

Harriet and I conferenced with this highly respected firm when they and we were active in opposing the e scooter operators and the City that carelessly licensed them.

The reason for my note is to strongly question why Council would deal Tuesday with 3 b and c when the filing date deadline is so close. Surely, Council and Doug Sloan would want to review carefully before that meeting any and all claims filed with the City. by Dec.31 and by any lawyer.prior to making any binding decisions on the facts now before them.I write this as an attorney and a taxpayer concerned about what may be too hasty decisions involving City payments that might well be in nine figures while the City is having trouble performing essential services, such as policing. I have previously sent emails , unresponded to, concerning whether due diligence has been performed by the City and its independent experts in analyzing the insurance coverage issues, also involving huge sums of money. Sincerely, Stan Epstein. 310 393 7619

My understanding is that, under California law, it may be as much as six months after a court filing before our City knows  the number of, and substantive claims, of child abuse claims filed on or after July 1, 2022 and before December 31, 2022.How can the City intelligently budget in agreeing to any settlement without waiting for a full analysis of all that information?  Sent from my iPad
