RE: Interim Zoning Ordinance eliminating the prohibition of certain restaurants with frontage on the Third Street Promenade
Dear Mayor Davis and Honorable Councilmembers,
The Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. (DTSM, Inc.) Board of Directors supports eliminating the requirement restricting establishments with over 150 locations from opening on the Third Street Promenade.
Economic conditions and changes in the retail landscape have led to a high vacancy rate on the Third Street Promenade.
This vacancy rate threatens the vitality and prosperity of Downtown Santa Monica.
The DTSM, Inc. Board of Directors believes that eliminating the prohibition of certain establishments with frontage on the Promenade will encourage leasing and provide commercial property owners and businesses the flexibility needed for the Promenade to evolve and recover, while providing a greater diversity of uses for Downtown visitors.
