Dear Mayor Davis and City Council members,
I strongly support 6/13 agenda item 16-B re the need for an ordinance to restrict gun sales in Santa Monica, plus any additional measures that could help keep guns out of the hands of children.

Thank you for your consideration.

16B. Request of Councilmembers Torosis, Councilmember Zwick, and Mayor Davis that the Council direct the City Manager and the City Attorney to, within 60 days, draft an ordinance for council adoption to restrict the sale of guns in Santa Monica and propose additional gun owner responsibilities. This ordinance should be based on best practices from other jurisdictions, stakeholder engagement, and consultation with subject matter experts. New Item Received. 6/09/2023

Dear Council Members,
I am asking that you please support the motion made by Council Members Torosis and Zwick and Mayor Davis, to restrict and regulate the sales and future sales of firearms in Santa Monica. It is critically important that during a time when there are over 300 American gun injuries daily, Santa Monica is doing all it can to protect its community from gun violence, including taking precautionary, common-sense measures at sites where firearms are stored, sold and accessed. Please also consider any additional regulations that will increase public safety against the threat of gun violence including gun-owner liability insurance and safe storage standards for homes and vehicles - policies that are supported by many responsible gun owners.

As Santa Monica is a neighbor to many other small cities as well as the west side of greater Los Angeles, your policies directly impact the safety of these other neighboring communities as well.

Thank you,
Melody Hansen

As Santa Monica is our neighbor, their policies directly impact the safety of our community here in Culver City.

Thank you

In one of the least safe cities in California, a full ten (10) months after LASD transferred responsibility, there is still no Santa Monica CCW application process, yet you demand these restrictions be processed in 60 days? I write in support of Agenda Item, 16B as it is absolutely critical that this type of ordinance be drafted, because it is the very reasonable thing to do. When it comes to limiting the sale of guns and greater safety measures put in place for gun owners to be as responsible as possible, gun violence can be prevented. As an individual that personally knows the impact of losing a loved one to gun violence and caring for another family member that was injured by a gun, your determination to create the ordinance will not be in vain, but will keep loved ones of the community safe.

Thank you,
