3B Conference with Legal Counsel – Existing Litigation, Deciding Whether to Participate as an Amicus – Gov. Code Section 54956.9(d)(1); L.W. et al., by and through her parents and next friends, Samantha Williams and Brian Williams v. Jonathan Skrmetti et al., Case No. 3:23-cv-00376, United States District Court, M.D. Tennessee Attached hereto is the list of attorneys representing the Plaintiffs and the US Government has intervened on behalf of the plaintiffs. ....the Plaintiffs have outstanding representation.
Using City Attorney staff to write an Amicus brief in this case, regarding the laws of the State of Tennessee is clearly a waste of taxpayer money. My objection is NOT based on the merits of the plaintiffs' case. They have a meritorious claim. It appears many times the City hires outside counsel because we don't have legal staff available. So why waste taxpayer money on a case where the plaintiffs are clearly represented by exemplary attorneys both private and with the full resources of the United States government ? respectfully submitted
