Who We Are
Our Grid
To deliver safe, reliable, and affordable power,
we monitor and maintain a vast electricity system
753,000 Transformers
126,000 Miles of Transmission
and Distribution Lines
5,900 Circuits
1.7 Million Poles
50,000 Square Miles
4 Strengthening and Modernizing the Grid
• Infrastructure reliability – updating
underground cables, poles, switches, and
transformers
• Wildfire mitigation – hardening infrastructure,
bolstering situational awareness capabilities,
and enhancing operational practices
• Transmission – connecting renewables,
installing new substations, and updating lines
• Grid readiness – updating the grid for impacts
from new technologies
• Long-term energy policy – supporting energy
storage, electric vehicles, and renewables
SCE plans to spend more than $5B each
year to maintain, improve, and harden
its infrastructure
SCE’s investments support safe, reliable, affordable, and clean energy for our customers 2022 Capital Investments

14 Readying the Grid for Achieving
California’s Decarbonization Goals
Readying the Grid for Achieving California’s Decarbonization Goals: Transportation Electric Grid Readiness (TEGR)
15 • State policies, technology advancements, federal investments, and customer adoption converging to drive drastic shift in electricity demand over next ~10 years.
o Targeted investments needed now, in this GRC period, to ensure the grid is prepared for scale of adoption to meet State’s decarbonization goals and keep pace with customer adoption. o SCE identified areas requiring grid readiness work to prepare for reasonably expected TE Load Growth. • TE can alter load demand in certain areas like, the
Port of Long Beach, by 10-20x of historical.
• Preparing for this immense shift now will lessen
otherwise potentially lengthy interconnection
timelines.
• Since 2021, SCE has received over 700
interconnection requests for TE loads of at least
500 kVA or larger, with the TE interconnection
request demand increasing YoY.
• Cognizant of benefits this transition provides to
our most vulnerable communities.
• 90% of selected TEGR locations either along
major transportation corridor or have
proximity to ports, and close to 70% of
selected locations in disadvantaged
community. Geographic Representation of proposed TEGR upgrades Growing Consensus on Scale of Load Growth from the
Clean Energy Transformation
With growing alignment on the scale of
transformation electrification will have on the utility sector, there is growing interest in understanding the
potential electric system impacts
• CPUC-driven (Kevala) Electrification Impact Study,
identified significant need for distribution
investments to 2035
• Kevala study highlights the significant investment
needed
• CEC's latest IEPR shows a ~7x growth in TE load
compared to previous report
