Dear City Councilmembers,
The Board of Santa Monica Mid City Neighbors has voted to take a position on Item 10- F. Daniel Mick attended our public meeting last week and reviewed these proposed ordinances for us. We are fully in support of the creation of these ordinances as delineated.
As some of you may already know, the Board of SMMCN has been advocating for the creation of a Vacant Property ordinance for over a decade. An ordinance was created but it turned out to be toothless and ineffectual. Property owners were able to effectively ignore it and not only did the problems persist, they got worse and worse every year. Daniel Mick's presentation showed the correlation between vacant properties and police calls which shows that they are a magnet for criminal activity. Members of our organization who reside in the Collegiate streets have had to stare at an eyesore of a partially constructed building for a quarter century. Those closer to Lincoln and 9th streets have been impacted by crime and homelessness for much of the last decade.
Please vote "Yes" on these ordinances so we can start to Make Santa Monica Beautiful Again.

To Santa Monica City Council Members
I fully support the work of Daniel Mick to re‐enforce our Code Enforcement Policies and Procedures. I find this to be a good start to a strategic code enforcement program that is equitable,effective, and efficient. It is a supportive program for a working partnership with property owners.
I strongly encourage the City Council to follow through on the program to require registration of all vacant buildings. This will help property owners understand their responsibilities to a neighborhood and lift the value of all areas of our City.
