RE: Support Item 11-A Affordable Housing on Three City Owned Sites Dear Santa Monica City Council Members:

Please support agenda item 11-A to enter into an agreement to build more affordable housing on the Three Cityowned sites adjacent to Wilshire Blvd. This is an opportunity for us to support critically needed affordable housing in our city that will enhance equity and diversity in Santa Monica. These projects will help to bring vibrancy to our community and neighborhoods.

This critically needed affordable housing also helps support economic diversity and community wellbeing. These projects will provide housing opportunities for our local workforce to live closer to their jobs and improve personal and community wellbeing by helping to reduce stresses associated with long commutes, reduce vehicle congestion and pollution impacts in the community, support local business and make Santa Monica a more walkable and sustainable city for future generations.

Sincerely,
Cynthia Rose Cris Gutierrez

Dear Mayor Brock, Vice Mayor Negrete, and City Councilmembers, I am happy to see the City making good on our commitment to use City-owned land for affordable housing that our community so desperately needs. I urge the Council to approve the staff recommendation and authorize the City Manager to negotiate and execute an exclusive negotiating agreement with Hollywood Community Housing Corporation for the base case presented in the staff report.

Additionally, please do not use any part of Santa Monica’s Housing Trust Fund to pay for replacement parking.

We should be utilizing the precious resource of our Housing Trust Fund to pay for homes for people, not cars.

I appreciate the Council’s dedication to increasing the supply of affordable housing in our community.

Sincerely,
Natalya Zernitskaya

The city gave Community Corp of SM money to buy the parking lots behind Zucky's Restaurant to build a low income housing project. With no adjacent parking patrons ate elsewhere, business plummeted and Zucky's closed.

PLEASE SUPPORT OUR RETAIL STORES ON WILSHIRE BLVD. FUND THE REPLACEMENT ON SITE PARKING Many thanks for your consideration

EXTERNAL
Good Evening City Council,
As a resident of the Wilmont neighborhood (living by the juncƟon of Wilshire and 11th), I would like to share my support for the conversion of the nearby parking lots to housing.

Please do not stop at converƟng these three parking lots into housing. Please consider converƟng a part of the parking lot next to Vons and RiteAid on Wilshire between Euclid and 14th St into more housing. It is a parking space that is vacant for most of the day and night. There is also the parking lot behind Melisse/Rock & Pies between 11th and 12th street, the lot by the liquor store on 10th St, and the lot behind the Starbucks that are at least 50% vacant all day and night. ConverƟng these unused spaces into housing will make the street feel safer to walk down at all Ɵmes of day and bring the boulevard and its vacant store fronts to life.

Many thanks,
Rowan

Dear Santa Monica City Council,
As a Santa Monica resident who lives nearby to the proposed affordable housing sites on parking lots nearby Wilshire Boulevard, I support the developments. The dire housing crisis in this city calls for these sites (and many others) to become affordable housing, not parking.

These often-empty lots need not be replaced either. Mandating parking replacement will drive up the cost of making these much-needed units, rendering them less feasible. I live close by and have never had trouble finding parking near home or near the businesses on Wilshire by these sites, nor have guests of mine. There is no permit parking on my block, because there is no need. There is also no need to replace these lots.

Sincerely,
Jacob Wasserman

Councilmembers,
I urge you to support the staff recommendation: award the RFP and enter into an ENA with HCHC, with the CEQA exemption.

In addition, please give direction to pursue the option with the lower number of parking spaces rather than allocate $5.5M of scarce housing funds -- the proposed 96 private spaces can potentially be shared with the public given the likelihood that residents will be away during the times customers seek to visit the nearby businesses and the technology, including a number of parking apps, is available to direct customers to these open spaces.

That $5.5M would be better allocated to other future affordable housing projects. Our socioeconomic diversity is at risk and the need for deed-restricted housing is great.

Regards,
Ted Winterer

Councilmembers, as you're all well aware, Phil recently got me, an $80k electric Mercedes SUV. As Phil's $80k electric Mercedes SUV, I implore upon you to take the option to use $5.5 million of Santa Monica's affordable housing fund to make sure that there's abundant affordable housing for cars and SUVs like me so that we don't have to sleep on the street.

While I have you, please also make sure the $5.5 million parking lot provides plentiful free electric chargers so that electric SUVs like me can charge in the comfort of our affordable housing without having to rely on the largesse of our owners (Phil gets angry every time he has to pay to charge me θικλ).
