Mayor Brock, Mayor Pro Tempore Negrete, and City Council:
I am writing to express my strong support for the proposal put forth by Mayor Brock and Mayor Pro Tempore Negrete regarding the establishment of a Youth Commission within our city. This initiative is crucial in fostering civic engagement among our youth and ensuring that their voices are heard in all matters concerning our community.
Engaging young people in local governance is not only a matter of democratic principles but also a means to cultivate future leaders who are informed, empowered, and invested in the well-being of our city. By establishing a Youth Commission, we provide our young citizens with a platform to actively participate in decision-making processes, contribute their perspectives, and advocate for issues that are pertinent to them and their peers.
Additionally, exploring opportunities to incorporate dedicated seats for youth on existing boards or commissions would enhance the inclusivity of our governance structures and ensure that young voices are integrated into all aspects of decision-making.
Investing in the civic education and participation of our youth is an investment in the future vitality and prosperity of our city. I urge City Council to vote to support this item and implement measures that prioritize youth engagement in local governance.
