Subject: PLEASE TELL SMO "NO FLYING TAXIS"
Dear Santa Monica City Council Members,
I oppose development of infrastructure for use by Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), including Flying Taxis, at Santa Monica Airport (SMO), as well as any AAM operations to and from SMO.

The aviation industry promises to transform aviation by flooding the congested air above us with many thousands of low-flying Air Taxis over Southern California. The aviation industry provides unsupported claims that Air Taxis are safe, have no significant negative impacts, and will reduce traffic on the ground. They have also spent more than $22B developing and lobbying for Air Taxis, cloaked in secrecy, and with not one shred of evidence that people on the ground want or need them.

SMO would be the key to the beginning of AAM implementation. Agreeing to move forward in any way would have wide reaching impacts throughout the region! It would also make the intended use of the former airport land, a public park, unbearable for visitors.

Please consider the community on the ground and firmly reject any implementation of AAM/Flying Taxis at SMO.

Thank you for your consideration!

Subject: ICE at Santa Monica

EXTERNAL
To Whom it May Concern:

I have been a patron of the rink since 2009 when I attended skating classes hosted by Randy Gardner. In 2013, was lucky enough to be hired as a coach & also helped out with special events & birthday parties.

In 2015, since I enjoyed the atmosphere there so much, decided to also offer my services as a skate guard as well & continued coaching, helping with special events through the winter of 2020.

Ice at Santa Monica was always my favorite outdoor rink. It was in an ideal location, right by the beach, shops, etc.. and it was affordable because it charged a flat rate to skate all day.

Post pandemic, I was glad to return with my colleagues for the season of 2022-23. Our patrons were so grateful to be back & happy that the rink was there to enjoy once again. Overall, we had a good season.

For the 2023-24 season, the city decided to do a major overhaul. The managers whom I worked with in 2013 were replaced as well as the skating school director, therefore was not hired back as a coach. However, was extremely thankful to be hired under the new management team & enjoyed my job as a rink hostess very much. The new managers were very pleasant & I had good working relations with each of them. The one major difference, however, was the cost to skate. From the time of the rink’s inception in 2006, it has always been a flat rate of $20. This is what the public was used to and what made this rink stand out. Furthermore, it was always meant for the community and to be affordable for everyone so hope you will consider restoring the original $20 daily rate price once again.

Thank You,
Lisa

Please listen at the end. Supervisor Lindsey Horvath states that the SANTA MONICA CITY COUNCIL is ADVANCING the handouts of free glass pipes and needles. How many NEEDLES and GLASS METH PIPES can $300 million buy? The Feds are following the MONEY ... and LA County Health Director BARBARA FERRER, LA County 3rd District Supervisor LINDSEY P. HORVATH, the VENICE FAMILY CLINIC and HEAL THE BAY. Santa Monica City Manager David White and Council Members are next in line.

Subject: Set up a Park Safety Commission - Memorial Park

EXTERNAL
Dear Members of Santa Monica City Council
I am writing to you as a concerned patron of Memorial Park. I am gathering signatures from athletes, family members, parents, and citizens who use the amenities there - which include the numerous tennis and pickleball courts, baseball fields, skateboard park and recreation center.

Our demand is access to a Safe Memorial Park.

In recent weeks, we have been concerned for the safety of ourselves and the more vulnerable population, our children. Please see a list of incidents below:

1. A 5 year old child was approached by an unhoused person in conversation to “play a game”.

2. An unhoused and unstable individual jumped the fence into the Cove skatepark while children were skateboarding in the park, which resulted in evacuation.

3. An unhoused and unstable individual is having altercations in the public parking lot. This individual and others are currently residing in cars in the public parking lot.

4. Public drug use is being conducted in the public bathrooms at the Little League fields, which is the main bathroom used by families. We have noticed individuals residing in some of the bathroom stalls, leaving feces and hypodermic needles in close proximity to the Little League fields.

We demand that our Santa Monica government officials focus their attention on this matter and come up with a strategic plan to be enforced immediately to ensure access to a Safe Memorial Park. --

EXTERNAL
Why must residents, businesses and tourists in Santa Monica wait until AFTER the November City Council Elections to reinstate funds for the Chief of Police to hire 100 more officers he says he needs? Why must PUBLIC SAFETY be compromised? Why can't SMPD's Downtown Services Unit be restored NOW to 33 sworn officers from the current 14 sworn officers? Lives, property, businesses and city revenue are on life support. These women clearly say they do NOT call the City's Downtown Private Security, Legion Corporation, because Legion cannot arrest, detain, and are not armed to protect even themselves.

In Santa Monica, open use of drugs on the 3rd Street Promenade, sidewalks of Downtown, and parks, along with theft on a daily basis, are what our City Manager, Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. (DTSM), and City leaders have gifted residents, restaurant owners and retailers. Employees are brave. Public safety does NOT work without traditional law enforcement mixed with new ideas.

Wherever you grew up, the first time we left the house alone, our Moms said make sure to look right & left when you crossed the street.

They didn’t tell us to look up for criminals crawling through the roof. Maybe we need to update our advice to our children in Santa Monica.

In Santa Monica, doesn't it seem like it's always the social justice warriors who are the most misogynistic? The entrenched policies of the 45 + year establishment are not working.

Subject: $96 Million Spent for Tongva Park, Now One of Santa Monica's De-Facto Homeless Shelters

EXTERNAL
If parks are even a thought for Santa Monica's Mayor and City Council, they are an afterthought. When the 2018 Martin vs. Boise was decided by the then-US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, Santa Monica's City Attorney, City Manager and City Council issued pocket cards within days with instructions for Police and residents, explaining that the city was allowing 24-7 camping in parks, sidewalks and public spaces. The recent Grants Pass decision by the US Supreme Court is now 'the law of the land' and imposes criminal penalties for public camping and public sleeping - - even if cities lack sufficient shelter space to accommodate their unhoused. Santa Monica declared a "State of Emergency" 2 years ago, and despite the recent US Supreme Court's Grants Pass Decision and Governor Newsom's Executive Order, has done nothing.
