SUBJECT: Airport Commission’s Recommendation to City Council At their December 11, 2019 special meeting, the Airport Commission made the following recommendation to City Council relating to the Airport Compass Rose Landmark:
The Airport Commission supports the aim of the Landmark Commission to memorialize the distinct accomplishments of female pilots and the remarkable achievements of Amelia Earhart.
However, the Airport Commission believes, given the City Council obligations under Measure LC and the Consent Decree, and the intention to plan for a great park, that it may have unforeseen consequences for future uses at the airport to establish the Compass Rose landmark at the present location, one that is not accessible to the general public.
This motion was passed 4 yes; 1 no.
