RE: Agenda item 16F Entertainment Zones Support
Dear Mayor and City Council Members:

The Santa Monica Safe Streets Alliance supports taking the necessary steps and drafting the necessary ordinances and required policies that would allow the establishment of an entertainment zone (as that term is defined in SB 969) in Santa Monica. We encourage beginning on but not limiting the zone to the Third Street Promenade in Downtown Santa Monica with the potential to expand to other entertainment zones around the city.

This legislation allows Santa Monica to support local business with vibrant, contained entertainment areas.

Additionally we believe crafting a policy to allow for flexible, easy, temporary or pop-up entertainment zones should also be considered to align with this new law and streamline permitting for events like open street celebrations.

These entertainment zones can add to a fun, socially cohesive Santa Monica community while benefiting our local economy.

Sincerely,
Cynthia Rose Cris Gutierrez

There is too much open alcohol consumption on the Promenade now, primarily by derelicts.

Before legalizing more of it, make sure Police and Promenade businesses are in agreement re: “Permit consumers to leave the premises with open containers of alcoholic beverages for consumption off the premises within an entertainment zone”
Sincerely,
Peter DiChellis
