Dear Santa Monica City Council,
I am writing to oppose Agenda Item 16E, which would use taxpayer funds to send Phil Brock on a trip to Florida. Mr. Brock has clearly lost this election by a significant margin, and in less than a month, he will no longer be representing our city. Approving this expenditure would be an unjustified waste of public funds, especially when he is nearing the end of his term.
The residents of Santa Monica deserve fiscal responsibility from their elected officials, and there is no valid reason to fund non-essential travel for someone who is leaving office. I urge the council to reject this proposal.

Mayor Brock, Mayor Pro Tempore Negrete, and Council:
Please vote NO on Item 16E.
First, since the item description is written as if there is some uncertainty about the result, let's be very clear: Phil Brock lost re-election (by a wide margin).
Why should the taxpayers of Santa Monica be on the hook for his vacation to Florida? Brock's participation in the NLC conference would not benefit Santa Monica in any way. Either send someone who will be continuing on the Council in 2025 and beyond, or use these funds on something else that will be productive for our city government.
If the local election results taught us anything, it's that we should look toward the future not the past. --

Phil, it's long past time for you to concede this race. You and any other outgoing councilmembers hoping to get one last taxpayer-funded vacation to Florida should return the money instead. You can even request a 4% police and fire sequester on the travel funds.
