Re: Offer of Temporary, Part-Time Employment – Limited Duration Dear Elaine:
It is my pleasure to extend this offer of temporary, part-time employment. The specific terms of your appointment are as follows:
Your start date is Monday, February 3, 2025, and your end date is Thursday, February 20, 2025.
Your rate of pay is $197.41 per hour.
You will be scheduled to work approximately 20 hours a week. You are not entitled to receive any additional benefits, incentives, compensation in lieu of benefits, or other forms of compensation. Your appointment is “extra help” due to specialized skills that are needed to perform work of a limited duration and your appointment is not to be a vacant budgeted position.
As a temporary, as-needed employee, your employment status is at will and may end with or without cause or advance notice at any time. As a CalPERS retired annuitant, your hours of work may not exceed 960 hours in a fiscal year (July 1st through June 30th) for all combined CalPERS employers by whom you are employed.
This offer of employment is made with the City’s understanding and belief that it complies with State law governing employment of CalPERS retirees. However, the City cannot guarantee that CalPERS may otherwise determine in the future that your employment is not consistent with limitations on post-retirement employment. Therefore, your acceptance of this offer of employment is done so at your own risk. If CalPERS finds that your post-retirement employment with the City violates restrictions on employment of retirees, the City will not be responsible for, and you agree to waive any and all claims against the City for, any loss or damage occasioned by you because of any such findings. Please review A Guide to CalPERS Employment After Retirement (Pub 33) to ensure you understand the rules for working after retirement.
If you accept this offer of temporary, part-time employment, please sign below and return this letter to my attention.
If you have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact Human Resources Director Dana Brown at (310) 458-8940 or [email protected].
Sincerely,
Lana Negrete
Mayor
