Dear Mayor Negrete, Mayor pro tem Torosis and City Council members, Please support agenda items 16B, 16C, and 16D tonight.
16B) I support the proposal to look into funds for creating a public dashboard on the city's website providing residents access to the City Attorney's Office criminal prosecution data. This initiative would enhance transparency, allowing community members to better understand prosecution patterns, case outcomes, and resource allocation. In an era where data-driven governance is essential, this dashboard would empower residents to engage more meaningfully in public safety discussions and hold our officials accountable. Similar systems in other municipalities have strengthened community trust and provided valuable insights for policy improvements.
16C) I support exploring the implementation of a nighttime curfew for Santa Monica State Beach. Our beautiful coastline should be a safe environment for all residents and visitors. Establishing reasonable evening closure hours would help address growing concerns about overnight encampments, illegal activities, and public safety incidents that strain our police resources and create unsafe conditions. This measure, already successfully implemented at many California beaches, could significantly improve public safety while allowing our maintenance crews better access for beach cleaning and preservation. I urge the council to pursue this common-sense approach that balances public access with the wellbeing of our community.
16D) I support the proposal to study remote work data among Santa Monica city employees. This research would provide valuable insights into both utilization patterns and productivity metrics, helping our city make evidence-based decisions about flexible work arrangements. Understanding which departments and functions thrive remotely versus those requiring in-person presence could optimize our workforce strategy, potentially reducing office space costs while maintaining or improving service quality. In today's evolving workplace landscape, such analysis would ensure Santa Monica remains an employer of choice while responsibly managing public resources.
Thank you,
Heather Thomason

Dear Mayor Negrete and City Council -
As a resident who wants more transparency and accountability from our city, I support Items 16B, 16C and 16D.
It is refreshing to see the city council focus on operational, safety and productivity reporting. A data and evidence based management approach is the direction the City Council needs to take. This along with short- and long-term cost benefit analyses will help make decision making easier and allow residents to understand these decisions better. This city has become too divided by a competition of "good intentions" when it's the results that should matter. This is what we expect our City Council to focus on; a balanced view, analyses of data and trends and recommendations of the broad spectrum of issues and opportunities the city faces.
This means trying something different when what we are doing doesn't work, no matter how invested in the current idea we may be. To that end, closing the beach at night is worth trying.
Finally, Santa Monica has the most expensive municipal building in the history of the United States.
The city hall annex was built over the objection of residents and sold a as a place staff would come together to work and serve the public. That isn't happening when nobody is there. Requiring municipal employees to come back to the office so they can interface directly with the people they serve is an important and necessary step. Perhaps it will help fulfill our commitment to local hiring.
Thanks,
Nikki Kolhoff

Dear Mayor Negrete and City Council members,
As a management consultant interested in transparency and ongoing, dynamic information I applaud the efforts by Mayor Negrete and council members Zwick and Natalya for supporting one or all of the above items. This along with short- and long-term cost benefit analyses will help make decision making easier and allow residents to understand these decisions better. Again, I am encouraged to see some of the City Council interested in reporting and hopefully proactively acting on data and trends that can improve for residents the operational, safety and productivity aspects of the city. This is what we expect our City Council to focus on; a balanced view, analyses of data and trends and recommendations of the broad spectrum of issues and opportunities the city faces.
