Re: Support of Public Works Department’s Plans for the Pier Bridge Reconstruction Project Dear Honorable Mayor Negrete, Members of the City Council and City Manager Chi:
On behalf of the Santa Monica Pier Corporation, we are writing to express the Corporation’s support for the Public Works Department’s proposal for the reconstruction of the Santa Monica Pier Bridge.
At our Regular Santa Monica Pier Corporation Board Meeting on July 21, 2025, our board received the final update from City Staff before the project plans are to be presented at the September 9, 2025, Santa Monica City Council Meeting for adoption and award of a construction contract. The Pier Corporation’s Board of Directors voted to convey its support for the Pier Bridge Replacement Project as presented and for the project to move into the construction phase.
The Pier Corporation has been regularly kept up to date by City Staff on the development of the Pier Bridge Replacement Project for the past several years. This past year we’ve convened with staff and community stakeholders for bi-monthly meetings of the Pier Bridge Replacement Project Task Force, and we have received frequent presentations and updates at our regular public board meetings. Additionally, City Staff has conducted outreach at many of our free public events including our monthly Locals’ Nights and the Pier 360 Beach Festival.
As the project moves into construction, we look forward to continuing to partner with City Staff and our stakeholders to ensure the public can continue to access the Pier and enjoy all it has to offer.
