Subject: Item 4-B: Homeland Security Program Grant
EXTERNAL
Of course we should accept federal funding from the State Homeland Security Program for the carefully specified Fire Department uses described in the staff report.
However, given the trauma many of our residents are feeling from ICE raids in our community and the region, perhaps we should note that we do NOT accept the top priority shown for the State Homeland Security Program as a whole:
> 1. Enhance information and intelligence sharing and cooperation with > federal agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security > (National Priority)
No one calling to report a fire or to summon paramedics for a medical emergency should have to fear that doing so compromises their personal security or that of their family. Please make clear that acceptance of the specified grant does NOT obligate us to “enhance information and intelligence sharing and cooperation with federal agencies…”.
Thanks,
Kevin
