EXTERNAL
Mayor Negrete and Honorable Councilmembers,
I urge you to approve this resolution tomorrow night.

As someone who has worked as a volunteer for the Open Main Street events and the Fourth of July Parade I can tell you that an automatic fee waiver would provide community members more time to focus on the events themselves, in lieu of the time-consuming and often byzantine process of seeking waivers on an annual basis.

Events such as the ones proposed to be covered by this resolution are an essential part of the City's economic recovery, drawing visitors and residents alike and enhancing our town's somewhat tarnished reputation.

I hope this will not be a difficult decision for you and you will pass the resolution unanimously.

Regards,
Ted

Subject: Item 11A - Resolution Establishing Signature Events Category & Waiver of City Event Fees

EXTERNAL
Dear Mayor Negrete and City Council Members,
I am writing to urge you to pass the Resolution Establishing a Santa Monica Signature Events Category and Waiver of City Fees.

I have been an active member of the Montana Ave. BID board for over a decade and have worked to grow and build the Montana Ave. Art Walk and Holiday Walk into the ’signature’ events they are today.

Waiving of the fees is crucial to keeping these events viable since BID budgets are often impacted by events that are beyond our control (natural disasters, global economics, etc).

I have included a few photos from this year’s Art Walk and last year’s Holiday Walk for a visual reference of what these events look like in real life.

Thank you!
Kara

With World Cup, the Super Bowl, and the Olympics coming to in LA over the next 3 years, this envisioning makes great sense and poises our City for tremendous success as well as streamlining the events permitting process for customary events with trusted local partners whom the community cherishes! A huge thank you to Director Rogers and RAD and I hope you will adopt the proposed resolution in support of many future Signature Events!
Sincerely,
Ann Bowman

EXTERNAL
Mayor Negrete & Honorable Councilmembers,
We urge you to approve this resolution tomorrow night.

An automatic fee waiver would free up city staff, our staff, and volunteer community members to focus on the events themselves, rather than the time-consuming and often complex process of seeking annual fee waivers.

These events are a financial net positive for Santa Monica. They are crucial for our city's economic recovery, attracting both visitors and residents, and helping to improve our town's reputation, which needs all it can get.

Main Street owes its success and survival to these events, but we can't continue to host them without predictable and reliable support. We just don't have the resources.

We hope this will be an easy decision for you, and that you will pass this resolution unanimously.

Thank You!

Subject: City Council 10/14 items 11-A and B - OPPOSE Changes to Disclosure of Gifts and Council Spending

EXTERNAL
I object to these items because now is not the time to make changes that could have the impact of reducing transparency.

No automative approvals of waivers (gifts) and no automatic spending on council discretion. The public needs to see everything.

Also, you have much bigger problems right now than figuring out how to spend more, faster, while the city is in fiscal distress.

Just stop the discretionary spending.
