Re: A Request of Councilmember Snell and Mayor Pro Tem Torosis that the City Council approve use of up to $2,000 of Council discretionary funds to support Santa Monica College's 9th Annual GIVING THANKS(giving) taking place Monday and Tuesday, November 24th and 25th to help provide holiday groceries and support for SMC students.
Santa Monica College Foundation’s 9th annual GIVING THANKS(giving) distributes holiday groceries to 2,400+ students in need. This event also raises critical funds to support SMC’s Basic Needs Program and EmergencyGrant Fund to support students throughout the year.
Santa Monica College's 9th Annual GIVING THANKS(giving) taking place Monday and Tuesday, November 24th and 25th on the Main Campus from 11a-7p, rain or shine. The event centers food security by providing an abundance of fresh, seasonal holiday groceries including grains, produce, and other shelf-stable items for students to feed a family of 4-6 members along with other special treats including a whole pumpkin pie and $50 grocery gift card.
Therefore, we recommend allocating up to $2,000 for the Annual GIVING THANKS(giving) event.
Sponsorship for this shall be split evenly across Councilmember Snell and Mayor Pro Team Torosis allocation, $1,000 out of each.
