Subject: I support 16E

Dear Council,
I want to express my strong support for item 16E and thank Mayor Pro Tim Zwick and Councilmember Hall for bringing this forward.
As a city that prides itself on being a leader in sustainability and active mobility, I believe it is crucial that our streets are truly accessible, and that when we build infrastructure that will (should) last decades, we opt for the more accessible and future-proof options.
The choices we make as a city will also influence other places to do the same, hopefully leading to more accessible places and lower costs as the demand grows and policies adapt (yes, I realize this may be wishful thinking).
Directional curb ramps are much safer and easier to use for people using mobility devices, people with vision impairments, people using strollers,... and really anyone who uses our streets.
If staff face cost challenges with the implementation of this policy, I strongly recommend reaching out to organizations such as Streets For All (yes, yes, conflict of interest. I'm with them. Quick, someone call the FPCC) to work on state policies that may help make these changes less costly.
Anyways, 16E has my strong support, and thank you to Mayor Pro Tem Zwick and everyone else behind this item, including community member Connor Webb, who has done more than his fair share of research on this.
Thank you,
Caro Vilain
