Subject: ITEM 4 L. Adoption of Local Roadway Safety Plan

EXTERNAL
Hello,
All licensed drivers in Santa Monica should oppose any plan that does not adequately consider severe injuries to drivers and their passengers.

The City’s own data shows severe injuries to drivers and their passengers exceed those to pedestrians and far exceed those to bicyclists (nearly 5x more in 2025).

Yet the Council’s “plans” routinely ignore this plain fact and too often make roadways even less safe for drivers.

Every resident with a drivers’ license should vote to oust those who perpetuate this dangerous farce, in every instance in which the member appears on any future ballot.

Sincerely,
Peter DiChellis
Santa Monica resident

Writing only for myself, as a professional transportation planner, Planning Commissioner, and resident of Santa Monica who walks, bikes, takes the bus, and drives on our streets, I support keeping our Local Roadway Safety Plan re-adopted in order to remain eligible for grants to support safe streets projects, while an update to the plan is being worked on.
