Subject: Support 4.A - Renter Aid Program RFP
EXTERNAL
Dear Mayor and City Council,
I write in support of Item 4.A, awarding RFP #470 to The People Concern for administration of the Santa Monica Renter Aid Program.
As a member of the Measure GS Resident Oversight Committee, I am pleased to see Measure GS funds put to work for exactly the purpose voters intended: keeping vulnerable Santa Monica renters housed.
The data in the staff report is sobering — over 6,700 renter households are severely cost-burdened, and nearly 500 face unlawful detainer filings each year. A flexible financial assistance program with embedded case management is the right response.
The Measure GS Committee looks forward to providing ongoing oversight and recommendations as the program launches and scales. I urge the Council to approve this item.
Thank you for your continued commitment to renter protection in Santa Monica.
Respectfully,
Sam Shapiro-Kline
Member, Measure GS Resident Oversight Committee

Dear City Council -
I oppose giving another $6 million to The People's Concern, which has a long history of mismanagement. Please stop throwing good money after bad.
