Project Description
The Bergamot Connector project will complete the City’s Michigan Avenue Neighborhood Greenway (MANGo) Bergamot Connector segment (21st Street from Pennsylvania Ave to Michigan Ave; Michigan Ave from 21st Street to Bergamot Arts Center), improving connectivity for residents and visitors to Bergamot Station, and promoting alternative modes of transportation while enhancing safety for all roadway users. This project is supported with grant funds awarded through Metro's MAT Cycle 2 funding program.
Project Justification
The project completes the Bergamot Connector segment of the MANGo Plan adopted by City Council 2014. The Neighborhood Greenway along Michigan Avenue was first envisioned by Pico Neighborhood residents seeking a safer, calmer, and more inviting corridor for pedestrians and bicyclists. Historically, the Pico Neighborhood has disproportionately faced environmental impacts due to commuter traffic and emissions from the I-10 freeway, which split the neighborhood when it was built.

Project Description
The Project will construct a Class IV protected two-way bikeway along 14th Street between Washington Avenue and Pico Boulevard, upgrading the existing Class II bicycle lanes to provide a safer and more comfortable facility for people of all ages and abilities. The Project includes ADA curb ramp upgrades at 14th Street and Michigan Avenue, a key connection to the Michigan Avenue Neighborhood Greenway (MANGo), as well as improvements at several high-priority Vision Zero intersections, including Broadway, Santa Monica Boulevard, and Pico Boulevard, which have a history of traffic collisions. Additional improvements include roadway resurfacing, traffic signal modifications and upgrades, installation of street lighting in select segments, and targeted sidewalk repairs. Safety enhancements will address locations with documented traffic conflicts by improving visibility, shortening pedestrian crossing distances, reallocating street space to better accommodate bicyclists, and optimizing traffic signal operations for all modes of travel.
Project Justification
The Project will improve safety, accessibility, and multimodal connectivity while strengthening connections to key community destinations, including Santa Monica College, the 17th Street/SMC Station, Lincoln Middle School, Memorial Park, the Michigan Avenue Neighborhood Greenway (MANGo), and the Pico Neighborhood.

Project Description
This project will install transit priority improvements on 4th Street in Downtown Santa Monica, including a southbound curb running bus lane between Wilshire Boulevard and Colorado Boulevard and two northbound queue jumps at Broadway and Santa Monica Boulevard. The project includes signal timing analysis, traffic signal modifications, signage, striping, and related installation work to improve bus operations, travel efficiency, and transit reliability.
Project Justification
Approximately 400 buses operate daily in each direction along the 4th Street corridor between Wilshire Boulevard and Colorado Boulevard, making it one of the City’s busiest transit corridors. Implementing bus lanes, queue jumps, and related transit priority improvements will improve bus speed, reliability, and rider experience, helping increase transit ridership and supporting the City’s goal of activating economic opportunity and growth by moving residents, workers, and visitors through Downtown Santa Monica in an efficient and environmentally sustainable manner.

Project Description
This project will design, construct, and evaluate quick build traffic safety improvements along the Michigan Avenue and Washington Avenue neighborhood greenways to support expansion of the City’s bicycle and active transportation network. Improvements will include traffic calming features such as diverters, chicanes, speed cushions, curb extensions, signage, and striping, along with community engagement, data collection, and project evaluation activities funded through a grant administered by Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG).
Project Justification
This project advances implementation of the Neighborhood Greenway network identified in the Bike Action Plan and MANGo Plan by addressing ongoing traffic safety and congestion concerns while improving bicycle and pedestrian connectivity. The project responds to strong community demand for expanded greenway infrastructure and will improve access and safety along key neighborhood routes connecting schools, parks, and residential areas, including Franklin Elementary School, Lincoln Middle School, St. Monica’s Catholic School, and Douglas Park.
